What is promising to be one of the most intriguing Warehouse Project seasons yet got underway at the end of September and The Debutant were there to soak up the opening weekend of Manchester’s biggest annual dance event.
Along with sister site, Young Academic, we have always been staunch followers of a spectacle that we think makes Manchester one of the best locations on the planet for ravers of all interests and ages and this year marks a decade of WHP. So, the opening weekend was always going to somewhat special.
Groove Armada, Ben Pearce and MK and a plethora of other acts kicked off proceedings on Friday 25th September and revellers feedback all but confirmed that this was indeed going to be another 12 weeks of seminal beats and atmosphere spearheaded by some of the best DJs in the world.
Welcome To The Warehouse…
We chose Welcome to the Warehouse as our first event, giving us the chance to return to what is surely the event’s spiritual home, Store Street. With WHP royalty Joy Orbison, Seth Troxler back to back with The Martinez Brothers, Jackmaster and a host of other fantastic DJs present, the night exceeded our already sky-high expectations.
The quality and experience of the DJs at our first Warehouse Project of the season meant that we were already expecting immense sets from the WHP stalwarts playing but the atmosphere was perhaps the most pleasing aspect of what was an unforgettable night at Store Street.
Store Street has often split opinion with regard to the vibe and overzealous security staff, which has often been attributed to concerns following the well reported drug incidents at the venue; but there was little evidence of this at the 2015 opening weekend. The atmosphere was very much one of excitement and the crowd generally seemed to be very much at ease with their surroundings. This made for a superb night.. or marathon.
12 Hour Party…
The extensive set list of the aforementioned DJs along with Daphni, Benoit & Sergio, Tom Trago, Jeremy Underground, Job Jobse, Zutekh DJs, Krysko and Lauren Lo Sung made Welcome to the Warehouse a near 12 hour party and if anyone made it from start to finish, then we salute you.
Our first visit to Warehouse Project 2015 certainly bodes well for the rest of the season and with such names as Skepta, Ben UFO, more from Joy Orbison, and Lxury playing before our next visit – Jamie XX at the Albert Hall – it is certainly shaping up to be an impressive Autumn from the Warehouse Project team.
